Key West Light Tackle Fishing report
April
6, 2006
April fishing is one of the best months of the year. There are plenty
of Kingfish still running, anyone can be from 10lbs up to 70 lbs in weight.
We have just seen some Permit showing up on their yearly spawning grounds,
live crabs as well as shrimp work best for bait. There are a plentiful
numbers of Yellowtail Snapper on the reef as well as Black Grouper and
Mutton Snapper on the bottom. We have just started to see some signs
of big Dolphin showing up, they can be caught on live bait as well as
trolling ballyhoo or lures. Sailfish and Cobia should start their yearly
migration soon, they are plentiful throughout the whole month. Tarpon
as well as a wide variety of Sharks ranging over 100lbs can be caught
in our key west harbor, chumming dead bait and throwing live bait work
effectively.
