KEY WEST FISHING REPORT - May 21st 2010

We've continued to see excellent action from a number of great sport fish here in Key West. Off shore, between six hundred and one thousand feet, we've been catching both Dolphin Fish and Sailfish, which both move further out into the deeper water this time of year.

In the Key West Harbor, our charter boats have been nailing between four to seven Tarpon on every half-day trip. These ferocious fighters have been biting on cut shrimp boat trash.

Lately, the Yellowtail Snapper spawn has been in full effect. Our charters have been catching their limit near the reef in sixty to ninety feet of water. Our captains have been setting our anglers up with spinning rods with twenty-pound fluorocarbon leaders. Three and four pounders have been biting on minnows and Bonita chunks. This is the best time of year to catch the big flags - we call them flags because of the way the larger males' fins protrude from the surface and look like flags. We've also been heading out late in the afternoon until nine pm to fish for Mutton Snapper every evening.

Good anglin',

Capt. Damon Santelli
