KEY WEST FISHING REPORT - June 8th 2010
We drifted off the reef today to catch some really nice Yellowtail Snapper. Using chum and cut Bonita, we were nabbing some sizable five pounders. At this point in the spawning season, we have not been catching as many Yellowtails, but the fish we have been catching are a nice size. The Porgies were also biting well at the reef. There also was a Nurse Shark caught out on the reef weighing one hundred and sixty pounds. It is unusual to see a Nurse shark that large.
This afternoon, we continued to fish inshore, hitting the deep channels of the Harbor for Tarpon. Our parties have been pulling in an average of five Tarpon per half day trip. Over the weekend, we were hooking some nice Tarpon out at Boca Chica.
We've also been guiding parties out to the reef every afternoon to fish for Mutton Snapper, which are also still spawning. Both varieties of Snapper that are active this time of year are excellent eating fish.
Good anglin',
Capt. Damon Santelli
