KEY WEST FISHING REPORT - June 29th 2010
father and his two seven-year-old sons. Light tackle fishing is ideal for kids because of the constant action. On the first day, we headed to the saltwater flats for a three quarter day charter fishing for sharks. In just six hours, the family managed to catch and release eight Lemon Sharks, three Blacktips, and one Bull Shark. The boys even reeled in some of these toothy predators.
On the second day, we fished for Tarpon in Key West Harbor, going five for seven. The largest Tarpon weighed over one hundred and thirty pounds. In addition to catching these monster Tarpon, one of the boys managed to land a forty-nine-inch Barracuda on twelve-pound-test line. His dad was so proud that he had the fish mounted for young Ian.
On the third day, we hit the reef to nab our limit of Yellowtail Snapper. This species is especially active this time of year during the spawning period. The group also caught a couple Mutton Snapper, some Triggerfish, and a twenty-pound Black Grouper.
Good anglin',
Capt. Damon Santelli
