Backcountry fishing is any fishing in Key West that’s done on the Gulf of Mexico side of the island. Flats fishing can be in the back country (Gulf side) or it can be on the ocean side of Key West. Most often, Key West flats fishing is done in the back country. There really aren’t a lot of salt water flats in front of Key West, the ocean side.
