Key West Barracuda Fishing
Key West barracuda fishing is either done as a way of getting bait or chum, or for the sport of it. Barracuda are strong fish, and get big so they fight pretty good. They are found everywhere- the flats, the reef, and backcountry. You can use them for bait when you go
shark fishing, or you can let them go, catch and release.
Key West barracuda fishing is a nice way to begin your shark fishing day, since how the way to go shark fishing is to anchor up, set out your chum and baits, and wait. The Key West barracuda fishing part lets you hook some exciting fish before you have to settle down and wait for the sharks to show up.
To use the barracua as shark bait, first catch three or four barracuda and string them up through their heads. Hang this mess off the back of your boat, and fillet the barracuda, without detaching the fillets. Barracuda are very bloody, so this will put out a nice scent trail for sharks to follow. Now sit back and wait a bit for the big strike!
Key West barracuda fishing is done by trolling a tube lure at high speeds. Barracudas will also hit surface lures, which is fun. However, they often follow the lures without striking. They have good eyesight and are often knowledgeable about people and boats. An almost guaranteed way to do Key West barracuda fishing is to put out a legal-sized snapper on a wire. They just can’t seem to refuse this!

Key West Shark Fishing
For Key West shark fishing, you can use live or dead bait or artificial lures. You can go
Key West shark fishing on the flats and target them with a fly. They range in size greatly from little Bonnet head sharks to the humongous Great Hammerhead shark.
You can also go Key West shark fishing on the reef and beyond the reef as well. Of course there will always be nurse sharks that are less exciting to catch, but they are very prevalent around the waters of Key West. They don’t really fight much, they just hang on the bait and lumber away on the drag. That’s why they are not very much targeted by people who love to go Key West shark fishing.
The best sharks to catch are Bull sharks and Black Tip sharps. Black Tip sharks jump in the air and Bulls well, they just fight extremely hard. Sometimes they jump but they are targeted because they fight so hard. Key West shark fishing is catch and release, truly a saltwater sport fishing activity only. You can get shark fishing charters that go out at night for a really different experience.

Key West Shark Fishing
Strong east winds have been hanging around the keys for a few days now. However if you can handle the seas the offshore fishing has been as good as it gets. Sailfish, Black Fin Tuna, and Mahi Mahi have been caught in good numbers. Always live bait is the key to catching fish offshore. The Sailfish and Tuna have been in depths ranging from 100 to 180 feet of water. The Mahi Mahi have been in about 500 feet of water.
Inshore the shark fishing has been red hot. Capt. Tony Miller on the Coolwater caught 13 big sharks yesterday which included: Bull Sharks, Black Tips, and Lemon Sharks. There have been a few Tarpon and Permit around the Key West harbor as well.
