Key West Light Tackle Fishing report
May report:
May fishing is one of our best months in Key West Florida. Tarpon fishing
in our Key West Harbor has been phenomenal, we are hooking plenty of
Tarpon using dead and live bait. Permit our gathered up in large schools
on our natural reef, we site fish for them using live crabs on a jig.
Our snapper and grouper have been staging up on the rising of the full
moon. We consistently catch plenty of yellowtail, mangrove and mutton
snappers in the day or night. May is one of our best months for the larger
migrating Dolphin fish, several fish in the 50+ lb range have been taken
in the past few weeks. Thank you

Offshore Fishing report
Over the past seven years the sailfish bite has been red hot in the month of
April
in Key West Florida. Key West host the "World Sailfish Championship" in
the middle
of this month, where fishing teams come from all over south Florida and beyond
to
compete for over $100,000 in cash prize money. This sailfish season has had a
slow
start with anglers patient enough to put a full day to catching one have been
rewarded
with one to three shots at sails per day. Along with seeing some sailfish, schoolie
size
to teenage mahi -mahi are being boated on Southerly breezes along with occasional
Blackfin tuna and Bonitos. With Gulf stream water moving within seven miles
of
the
Island this week anglers can expect the Sailfish and Mahi bite to improve dramatically.
Meanwhile anglers looking for action have not been disappointed. Bottom fishing
for
yellow tail snapper and grouper has been excellent west of the Island, and in
the Gulf
of Mexico boats are catching some smoker King Mackerel late into the season.
April is a great time to fish in Key West. For an awesome day of fishing in Key
West
aboard the Charter boat "Outer Limits" call Capt. Bennett Taylor.
