KEY WEST FISHING REPORT - February 9th 2010

For the last few days, we've been in between cold fronts with the breezes blowing out of the east. These are excellent conditions for fishing offshore to the south of Key West for pelagic fish like Blackfin Tuna, Mahi Mahi, and Sailfish. We've seen some nice success fishing for Sailfish this winter and Sunday and Monday of this week were no exception.  Our captains were two for three on Sailfish Sunday, and one for two on a half day on Monday.  In addition to the Sailfish our anglers caught some Wahoo, Tuna, and Dolphin using live bait by kite and drift fishing.

Reef fishing has also been good for Mutton Snapper and catch-and-release for Black Grouper.  Our own Capt. Bill Wallace reported catching and releasing a twenty-five pound Black Grouper.

Tuesday saw the wind shifting and blowing out of the south, sending our charters to the north of Key West to fish for Cobia and Kingfish on live bait at a forty-foot ledge. Our own Captain Tony Miller of the Coolwater had anglers hook a twenty and twenty-six pound Cobia as well as a forty-two pound King Mackerel on a live Blue Runner.

This week we anticipate some nice Deep Sea excursions on the Atlantic side after the wind shifts to blowing from the north. We'll be chasing Sailfish, Blackfin and Dolphin Fish this week.

Good anglin',

Capt. Damon Santelli
