KEY WEST FISHING REPORT - March 23rd 2010

The Tarpon angling has heated up with the spring temps in Key West. At this very moment, Capt. Wallace of our very own Outcast, reports having a Tarpon on the line in Key West Harbor. Our charters have been nabbing trophy Tarpon n the channels of the harbor, with the largest tipping the scales at 150 pounds. We drop anchor in the channels where these mammoth fish navigate to follow feeder fish in and out of the harbor as the tide rises and falls. We have found success baiting five-aught circle hooks with cut shrimp boat trash as bait.

Today, I headed out to the reef to guide some clients for some light tackle action. We nabbed a bunch of Bonita and Yellowtail Snapper. One client caught a twenty-two pound King Mackerel on a small live Snapper.

Also today, Captain Miller guided a charter into the flats to fish for the sharks who invade the area in order to spawn. His clients were hooking plenty of Lemon Sharks and Nurse Sharks up to three-hundred lbs. He's going to the Gulf side on Wednesday to fish behind the shrimp boats for Blackfin Tuna.

Now is the time to head to Key West for a Sailfish charter; these billfish migrate past the Keys every April.

Good anglin',

Capt. Damon Santelli
