KEY WEST FISHING REPORT - April 4th 2010
With the winds blowing towards the west and rising temperatures, Key West angling has really picked up lately. Every April, Sailfish migrate through this region, and our captains have been taking full advantage by guiding parties offshore to snag some of these trophy billfish. Friday on the Outcast, our own Damon Santelli led a group to hook Sailfish up to 8.5 ft. long using live Blue Runners and Herring. Blackfins and plenty of Bonita have also been biting offshore. One of Capt. Bill Wallace's clients also nabbed a trophy catch while wreck fishing in 220 ft. of water aboard the Coolwater: an 82-lb. Amberjack.
If you like to hunt down the fierce apex predators of the ocean, sharks, this is a great time to visit us in Key West. Today, I guided a group for an inshore expedition to the flats to fish for Lemons, Bulls, and Black-tips using filleted Barracuda and Bonita as bait. There is nothing more exciting than when I first spread the chum behind the boat and a dozen 250-lb. sharks appear.
Good anglin',
Captain Chris Garcia
