KEY WEST FISHING REPORT - April 23th 2010

Looking forward, we anticipate booking numerous charters out to the Gulf of Mexico for additional Blackfin Tuna fishing behind the shrimping trawlers. This week, we ventured into the Gulf, nabbing a number of Tuna utilizing cut bycatch for bait; we usually exchange a case of beer for this bait with the watermen on these commercial boats. After pulling up shrimp in their nets all night, these boats attract plenty of fishy followers that await this extra catch to be dumped overboard. Anglers may even have a shot at hooking a Bull or Hammerhead Shark as it circles behind the trawler.

We also will begin more trips on the Atlantic side of Key West, including plenty of bottom fishing at the ledges and hard bottom. We'll be fishing in one hundred and eighty to three hundred foot deep waters for Mutton Snapper and American Red Snapper. Grouper season also reopens at the start of May.

Good anglin',

Captain Chris Garcia
