KEY WEST FISHING REPORT - April 30th 2010

Today, we had a successful trip in Key West Harbor fishing for Tarpon. Tarpon season has really heated up lately, as evidenced by this excursion on the Coolwater. When a charter excursion lands 14 of 17 fish, you know the Tarpon is running well. The biggest Tarpon weighed over 130 lbs., biting on cut shrimp boat bycatch.

Capt. Wallace had a great inshore charter as well; he guided a party into the flats for some shark fishing. Using cut Barracuda as bait, his anglers were pulling in Blacktip Sharks, Lemon Sharks, and Bull Sharks. The prized catch on this trip was a Bull Shark weighing more than 250 lbs. Captain Wallace drew these hungry predators in close by chumming with more cut Barracuda.

The fishing on the Atlantic side of the Keys has also been hot. Captain Damon guided a party to the Gulf Stream on our charter boat, the Coolcast. His anglers reeled in scores of Bonito, Mahi Mahi under 15 lbs, and 4 Sailfish utilizing Herring for bait. Sailfish continues to run well, while the Mahi have just begun their run.

Good anglin',

Captain Chris Garcia
